Home-Start St. Helens is a group which, in their own words is, “providing volunteer led family support to empower families to thrive and reach their potential”.
This incredible group of people in St. Helens offers support, friendship and practical help to parents and carers with children aged from 0 to 19, or up to 25 if they have additional needs. The volunteers visit families at home, offering them informal, friendly and confidential support. Their aims are to support parents and carers as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links within the local community. The service strives to deliver a preventative service, supporting families at the earliest opportunity to help reduce the risk of crisis.
On Friday evening, Friday 13th no less, the group were presented with their King’s Award for Voluntary Service in the beautiful surroundings of St. Helens Town Hall, hosted by the Mayor of St. Helens, Cllr Seve Gomez-Aspron.
Equivalent to an MBE, The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest Award given to local voluntary groups in the United Kingdom, and it is awarded for life, “For outstanding achievement by groups of volunteers.”
The Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to present the award on behalf of His Majesty The King. A well deserved award presented to a group of volunteers who have given the most precious gift they can – their time. Many congratulations to all concerned!
