The King’s Award for Enterprise recognises outstanding achievements of UK businesses across International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility. 

This region is much more than a famous cultural capital, it is also a huge commercial centre, with businesses that innovate, that have fantastic products, that are successful overseas and who are working to help others. 

Don’t be modest about your business!  It’s time to shout about what you do and how well you are doing it, because when times are tough, this can give you an edge, more profile, more profitability and add some lustre.  We urge you to apply in one or more of the four categories of:

King’s Awards for Enterprise Event – 15th May 2024:

The Merseyside Lieutenancy held a second event this year at The Athenaeum Club at which sixty people heard from successful recipients of the KAE (and formerly QAE) about their experiences of making a successful application and the benefits of receiving the award.

Queen’s Award  for Enterprise presented to Global Beaty Products Ltd: 

On Tuesday 25th June 2024 the Lord-Lieutenant presented the last Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Merseyside to Global Beauty Products in Gaston, Liverpool. The Award was presented for International Trade.

Congratulations to all at Global Beauty Products Ltd, which I am confident will continue to prosper to the benefit of those employed, the county of Merseyside and, indeed, the whole United Kingdom and beyond.

Last year, two organisations in Merseyside were awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise: 

  • MPE Limited, based in Knowsley, a world leading manufacturer of high performance EMC/ EMP filters and capacitor products for supply to the automotive, defence, telecoms and other professional industries.  MPE Limited have been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation. 
  • St. Helens Chamber of Commerce have been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility.  This is the second time they have won the award, (the first time as the Queen’s Award for Enterprise). 

 The Lieutenancy held its second event to encourage businesses to apply on 15th May 2024 at The Athenaeum to explain the the do’s and don’ts for making a successful application and speak to past winners. Winners for this year were announced on 6th May 2024 and Merseyside had five:

JJ Smith & Co Limited – International Trade

Richardsons Healthcare Limited – International Trade

Rise Construction Framework – Promoting Opportunity

John Mason International – International Trade

Alfred H Knight Holdings Ltd receives the award for their digital transformation of complex inspection services in the metals and minerals sector in Africa. 

JJ Smith & Co Ltd. is the UK’s leading independent Woodworking Machinery business, supplying cutting edge technology around the World. 

Richardsons Healthcare Ltd has a world leading contract for operating table mattresses as a manufacturer supplying the World’s largest medical device companies.  They had previously been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Rise Construction Framework is awarded for helping care leavers remove barriers to employment, gain meaningful work and reach their full potential. 

If you are a business with a great innovative product or service, or running an impressive social mobility programme, this award is a prestigious way to recognise your contribution to enterprise. The King’s Awards for Enterprise are open to applications from almost all businesses of all sizes, in every sector throughout the UK, including those organisations that are “not for profit”.
