Zeebrugge Memorial

Zeebrugge Memorial

The Zeebrugge Raid, which took place on St George’s Day, 23 April 1918, is commemorated annually in the Wirral/Birkenhead area, specifically to honour the role of Mersey ferries and those who lost their lives in the mission, which led to the Daffodil being renamed The Royal Daffodil, a Royal title which has been carried onto the latest new Mersey Ferry.

Liam Hanlon DL attended a service organised by the Royal Marines Association on Sunday 26th April 2026 at Seacombe Ferry, and onboard one of the ferries, on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant. Wreaths were laid both at the Ferry Terminal and in the river opposite Wallasey Town Hall. Also in attendance was the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Brian Kenny, and Mayoress Mrs. Helen Kenny.

We will remember them.
