Crispin Pailing MBE DL represented the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside at the Michael Causer Vigil at Court Hey Park, marking 18 years since Michael’s death. He was joined by the Mayor of Knowsley, Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, and representatives of Merseyside Police and Fire and Rescue Service. 

Michael Causer was just 18 years old when he lost his life following a homophobic attack in 2008. His tragic death became a catalyst for renewed action against hate crime and helped inspire the return of Liverpool Pride, ensuring that his legacy continues to promote equality, inclusion and respect across our region.

The annual vigil brings together Michael’s family, friends, community leaders, LGBTQ+ organisations and residents from across Merseyside to remember Michael, honour all victims of hate crime, and reaffirm our shared commitment to building communities where everyone is valued, respected and safe.
