It was an absolute pleasure to be able to present Moreton in Bloom with their so well deserved King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
This incredible group of volunteers does so much more than simply plant beautiful planters all across Moreton – but it certainly does have a huge number of beautiful planters! Moreton in Bloom has recreated the community spirit in Moreton. The citation on their award is, “Rejuvenating the appearance and spirit of Moreton Village.” and they most certainly have done just that.
From its starting point of the planters, the group was asked to take over the Christmas Lights, which has culminated in an annual huge “switch on” event, bringing hundreds of people into Moreton, with Christmas Markets, a Santa’s Grotto, music and something for everyone. They have held several large social events in the summer in Lingham Park, including for the late Queen’s Jubilee and a summer fete last summer with a large stage with bands, stalls, a Royal Tea Tent, a fairground and so much more.
They have worked with students on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, go into schools with seed bombs to encourage children to sow seeds, and have established an orchard – Lillibet’s orchard – a haven of peace for those who do not have a garden of their own.
Many congratulations to this incredible group – a very well deserved award.
Many thanks to the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Brian Kenny and Mayoress Mrs. Helen Kenny, Assistant Director Wirral Council, Mr. Peter Moulton and Rector of Christ Church, Revd Ron Ives for hosting the presentation in the beautiful Christ Church in Moreton.
