Deputy Lieutenants Liam Hanlon and Marlene Amoo represented the Lord-Lieutenant, and the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund Merseyside, on a visit to The Brink, Liverpool’s first alcohol free cafe, on Wednesday Evening. The Duchy has awarded two grants previously to The Brink to help with specific needs they have identified to support their tremendous work with tackling addiction.
The purpose of the event, alongside raising awareness, was to engage with new and current supporters, service users, and staff associated with The Brink. They also be launched ‘Friends of The Brink’, a dedicated fundraising group committed to supporting The Brink. Tony Adams MBE, Forward’s Chair of Trustees (and former Arsenal and England football player), was there to share his personal story, alongside John Barnes and chatted to supporters.
The evening was relaxed and uplifting, and a great opportunity to hear about all the wonderful work that has been happening at The Brink.
Liam said, “Marlene and I had a wonderful evening at THE BRINK last Wednesday evening meeting the staff and volunteers and learning more about the services they offer.
“We listened to several testimonies from the people who have already benefited form the help and guidance provided.
“It was humbling to hear the life stories of those impacted by addiction and how they overcame their struggles.”
