The Lord-Lieutenant leads the Merseyside Lieutenancy in proactively supporting people, groups, communities, businesses and organisations that live, work, and volunteer in the region, and works to support those that wish to celebrate Merseyside’s rich culture, heritage, and diversity. The Lord-Lieutenant undertakes the following responsibilities:
Merseyside Lieutenancy has developed a Schools’ Programme that introduces children to the role, history and heritage of the monarchy. It is designed as a one off, interactive session and takes about 1Hr 15minutes to deliver. It has curriculum links to History, Equality and Diversity, British Values, and explores a number of other cross-curricula aspects of school life. One of our Deputy Lieutenants, Sue Higginson OBE DL, leads the programme on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant. It is aimed atKey Stage 2, Year 5 pupils. The presentation is delivered by a Deputy Lieutenant and in the academic year 2024/25, c60 schools and over 4000 pupils were involved, and feedback from staff and pupils was very positive.
If your school has been part of the programme in the academic year 2024/25, you will retain your place on the programme for the new Year 5 pupils and we will be in touch from September 2025. If your school has not yet been involved and would like to be, please contact the Lieutenancy Office but please note, places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
