Wirral Freedom of the Borough to Dixie Dean

The Lord-Lieutenant recently attended the posthumous awarding of Freedom of the Borough of Wirral to Everton football legend Dixie Dean at Wallasey Town Hall, as a guest of the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Brian Kenny.

Born in Birkenhead in 1907, Dixie began his footballing career at Tranmere Rovers before joining Everton Football Club, (also known as the Mighty Blues), where he scored 349 goals in 399 games, notably 60 in the 1927/28 season – a record which still stands.

It was a special occasion and a real pleasure to spend time talking with Dixie’s family, including his daughter Barbara.
