The Lord-Lieutenant and the Merseyside Lieutenancy team seek to play their part in ensuring that the young people of Merseyside get the best possible start in life. We seek to educate and inform to develop knowledge of The King, and the Monarchy, and to support and empower them to become active citizens, with an awareness of, and interest, in civil society.
We have developed a Schools’ Programme that introduces children to the role, history and heritage of the Monarchy. It is designed as a one off, interactive session and takes about 1hr 15 minutes to deliver. It has curriculum links to History, Equality and Diversity, British Values, and explores a number of other cross-curricula aspects of school life. It is aimed at Key Stage 2, Year 5 pupils.
The presentation is delivered by a Deputy Lieutenant and in the academic year 2024/25, c.60 schools and over 4,000 pupils were involved; with the feedback from staff and pupils being very positive.
If your school has been part of the programme in the previous academic year, you will retain your place on the programme for the next Year 5 pupils and we will be in touch from each September. If your school has not yet been involved and would like to be, please contact the Lieutenancy Office but please note, places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
We have established points of contact for liaison with the universities and high-level further education establishments in Merseyside.
This contact recognises that they are key ‘anchor institutions’ in Merseyside, making a significant contribution to the local economy as well as being leaders bringing research, knowledge, learning, qualifications and employment to a large number of people in the County.
By gaining an understanding of each other’s organisations and roles, we aim to be able to better support each other, particularly in the areas of promoting The King’s Awards for Enterprise, recommending and facilitating Royal visits, identifying potential JPs, attendees for Royal Garden Parties and nominees for national honours.
We seek to support Merseyside’s Uniformed Youth Organisations, which includes Army Cadets, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade, Fire Cadets, Girlguiding, Police Cadets, RAF Cadets, Royal Navy Cadet Forces, Sea Cadets, Scouts and St. John Ambulance.
Our intention is to play an active role in developing how these organisations collaborate and learn from each other. There exists a range of opportunities, including:
We will work with the Merseyside-level leaders of these organisations to support collaboration of this nature.
